Miracles happen every day.
Today we live at a balance point between opposite movements. It’s as if we were standing in the center of a vast meadow and experiencing that magic moment that separates night from day. I like to think of it as an age of practical miracles.
Concepts that were impossible to comprehend in an earlier time will now be easy to grasp. There is no real reason in this emerging world to simply discard old concepts simply because they conflict with new ideas or new dogma. Rather we can take what worked in the past, integrate it with new thinking and thereby create a new whole that is more than the sum of its parts.
When I first introduced the ideas contained in Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus, I was met with enormous resistance. Many people were just not ready to accept that men and women in both their thoughts and actions could be very different from one another. My message was viewed by some as an attempt to drag our culture back to a time of inequality. When men and women were seen as different and unequal.
In a relatively short period of time society has been able to embrace once again the idea that men and women are fundamentally different, but at the same time one gender is not superior to the other. In other words, equal rights, equal employment opportunities, equal pay, can all happily coexist with the idea that men and women can be different and equal. This is the same consciousness that allows us to see that various races and ethnic cultures can be distinctly different and also equal. Various religions from the East and the West can also be greatly different for one another, but equal in the recognition and respect they deserve for their own unique heritage.
What allowed for the acceptance of the Men Are from Mars message was the simple fact that it was presented in a non-threatening manner. Every position taken in the book was rooted in the common experiences and practical values of everyday life. People who share these common experiences could quickly grasp the ideas presented and identify with them. When we can experience various truths for ourselves we are not so dependent on a guide to teach us. Rather we access that deeper truth in all of us, which helps to create a sense of balance and purpose in our lives.
Communication breakdowns between couples occur millions of times on any given day. Mars Venus has served merely as a guide to point us back to our instinctive center. For example, women and men thrive on different forms of recognition. Recognizing this not simply as a truth held by a handful of people, but as a shared common life experience for millions of men and women is the foundation for this leap in our ability to communicate.
A shared mutual respect between men and women generally, and various cultures specifically allows for this awakening. As our communications web moves at the speed of light we can see that in truth we are not all that different no matter the distances that keep us physically apart.
Will crimes of bigotry, and far worse continue as we move forward? On a limited geographic basis and a limited time frame, undoubtedly. But ours is a world that is embracing that powerful moment between night and day. We can stand at the balance points of opposites and find our way forward. We can believe as if miracles are possible!
