Renewing Your Wedding Vows: When It Counts Most
May 12, 2009

Hard work, not just saying "I Do" yet again, guarantees "Happily Ever After."
To mark their fourth anniversary, super-model Heidi Klum and recording artist Seal renewed their wedding vows on Sunday.
It’s is a wonderful way to say “I love you forever” – that is, if you’re doing it for all the right reasons.
What are those reasons? Here is when and why actions speak louder than the words “I do, again…”:
1. Because it brings you both joy. If one of you feels as if you’re going though with it just to appease the other, not only is your attitude wrong but so is the motives of your partner: this won’t give him or her the assurance needed to quell any doubts.
2. Because it’s just for the two of you. If you’re doing it for any other reason – say, to show off to family and friends, for publicity, or for a business write off – forget about it. What you’re creating is the prequel to the divorce party.
3. Because you want your children to be part of the process. Having your children witness or participate in the renewal of your vows is one way to instill the message of commitment through marriage. However, they will believe it more if they see your love, trust, honor and respect in action, to each other on a daily basis.
4. Because you want to relive the happiest day of your lives together. Should that mean recreating this special occasion in the same place, with the same guests and dress and cake, so be it. If it means taking your love in a new direction via a new location, go ahead and share the next trek in your life journey together. Making memories is what it’s all about.
