Have you set your intention for the day?
Interactive meditation is your chance to see your day in its most positive way. When we set our intention, we are creating our own unique version of coming events.
Of course other factors will greatly influence how any given day’s events unfold, but the magic of meditation is the ability to become aware of our intentions, and to use them as a touchstone we can return to whenever we want.
It also allows you to feel your inner connection to the power of the greater universe. This is accomplished by simply inviting God, or that higher power, into your heart.
To begin your practice of interactive meditation, find a comfortable pose, either sitting or lying in a place where you won’t be interrupted. Turn off the phone and give yourself the gift of fifteen minutes to turn inward and focus on those things that are of greater importance to you.
A good rhythm for meditation is two fifteen-minute sessions each day, perhaps just as your day is starting and in the late afternoon or shortly before bed.
Most people enjoy soft gentle music in the background. Meditate by quietly repeating this simple phrase ten times, once for each of your fingertips: “Oh God, my heart is open to you, please come sit in my heart.” After you have said this phrase out loud ten times continue to repeat it, by using only the voice that you hear in your mind. Keep a clock nearby so you can comfortably check the time. During your first days of meditation the time will seem to move slowly. As you continue to practice your focus will deepen and the time will move faster.
Know also that in the beginning most people’s minds drift off into other thoughts. When this happens to you, simply pull yourself back to your chant and continue. As you continue the practice of meditation you will find that this loss of focus decreases.
At the opening of this chant you can say whatever two words resonate with you instead of “Oh God,” That might be Jesus, Allah, Buddha, Krishna, Divine Mother, or any other words that feel right to you. Remember, this is your chant and your meditation so create something that has special meaning for you.
It won’t be long into this process before you feel yourself connecting with a world that lies much deeper than your daily routine. Some would describe it as connecting with a current of energy that flows around us every moment of our lives. As you make that connection you are prepared to set your intention. Just as you won’t get food in a restaurant if you never place an order, you cannot experience the benefit of meditation without setting your intention.
For example:
How do you want your day to unfold?
What do you want to have happen?
What are you happy about?
What are you confident about?
Meditation reminds us that we are all connected as one small light in a universe of unimaginable opportunities. We tap into just one small fraction of those universal possibilities when we enter a meditative state. And that is indeed a magical moment, one that you can cherish, once, twice, or more each and every day.
